Your Opinion

Sir,
I am a college student from Hyderabad and I have a question for you.
I watched your TED talk, ‘A well educated mind vs a well formed mind’, recently and I was wondering how can one overcome the challenges to educate children to go to school.
My maid is illiterate, but she wanted her children to go to school. They would be disinterested. She forced them in, but they’d bunk. Then they tried convincing them and on failing they hit them. Later, their children went to stay in the village and grew up there, working in the farm of their father. Soon, they got their children married and they were forced to work as they had responsibility. But, today they have realised that education is important and they wish they studied then but they are not ready to study now.
My maid is under the opinion that no matter how hard you try to make someone study, they won’t unless they have it in them, even if they start young.
Similarly, I met a few others who tried to make their children go to school by bribing them, despite them being illiterate, but failed to do so.
What is your opinion on it?

Thanking you.
Yours sincerely,
