Kerala
I remembered an incident from a family vacation. We had gone to Kerala, where everything was made of coconut. We took an Audi cab, which had coconut perfume sprayed and the driver had coconut oil applied to his hair. All the food contained coconut and we didn’t like it at all. We stayed in this beautiful 7 star hotel, where we had the choice of how we wanted the food to be prepared. This is the best part about 5 and 7 star hotels, they make everything available for you and never say no to anything. There was a chef who was from Telangana too. He was so happy to see someone from his state, that he welcomed us with so much of love. He made everything special in Kerala with a Telangana tinge in it. This made us enjoy the food and get the taste of authenticity.
Learning that I just finished my 12th, he said something to me, that remained with me for life. He told me that, do what you think is right and be happy with it, without looking back. He told me how he landed in Kerala as a chef. His parents wanted him to become and engineer, but he dared them and learned cooking. He worked under a lot of chefs and finally became a chef. He didn’t earn great, but he was happy with his life. While we were leaving on the last day, he presented us with a delicious smelling Kerala pickle and said that it was some love to take back to his state.
Today, these words were really thought provoking and I learnt the true meaning of it. I did what I thought was right to do in the present.
